Tomoko Kawase is a Japanese singer, songwriter, producer, actress, and model from Kyoto. She is the lead singer of the alternative rock band The Brilliant Green. After the release of Tommy february6's ', Kawase decided to focus on the Tommy heavenly6 persona. In 2006 and 2007 Tommy heavenly6 released five new singles which led to her second album. There are a number future DM releases I’d love to see happen – like others have mentioned, a continuation of the singles box sets would be very welcome; but it’s actually the previously unreleased visual material that excites me most, something this new collection only hints. There are at least two or three professionally filmed concerts that DM never released back in the day; the first is the Hammersmith Odeon concert in support of A Broken Frame – most of which was released as audio on the extra 12″s of Get The Balance Right, Everything Counts & Love In Itself. This 1982 concert was deemed to ‘dated’ by the time it was ready for release when DM were recording Construction Time Again, so they set it aside; this story is covered in Steven Malins excellent DM biography Stripped. Bridging the gap between Japanese pop and Western pop surprisingly capably, have stood at the crossroads of cultural idioms for years, progressively adding elements from on top of the rising and falling J-pop structure. Though J-pop as a whole has incorporated elements of Western music and diverged somewhat from the days of sheer idol-singing, where broke away from the pack is in their stronger adherence to Western aesthetics and craft. The music here has a vastly more crafted feel to it, it's a thing of work and art rather than a piece of manufactured goods (though not all Japanese pop has a manufactured sheen to it, it is a stereotypical element). There are influences of here, of the,, and the Nashville scene. The Brilliant Green may be the Japanese equivalent to a band like, putting together wide influences of classic forms and bands into something still new. Moreover, they do so in a solid manner, with arrangements leaving no obvious gaps or joints, with instruments being played just as they should be to fit the song rather than to display their newest trick, with lead singer using her voice to fit the song as well, never quite forcing herself to the front except as the melody demands, but never falling behind the instruments, either. The compositions are absolutely solid, and always interesting while keeping within understandable structures.

As I’ve said already people will never be satisfied, no matter what’s being given to them, so at this point a stronger moderation for such useless discussions would be welcomed. There is no point to a blu-ray release since these were shot on video tape. You can clean up a little, but you can’t make them HD unless you go back and do costly rescans and other work that frankly would not be justified economically. And even then it would only be somewhat better. By the way, that’s also why the Berlin release was DVD – shot on video and not film.

That said, I would like to point out that some people such as myself vastly prefer DVD to blu ray and am pleased that this release is on DVD. Without going into details or getting into a debate about it (unless someone is really curious, in which case I’ll explain further), blu ray is a flawed technology that usually costs more and has never looked any better for older releases in my experience. And, as for streaming, the companies must be laughing all the way to the bank to sell something without providing an actual physical product. That leaves DVD as the most recent decent technology.
